Learning to focus on healing yourself, begins with awareness. Now you may ask, how do I become aware?
What a wonderful question to explore awareness. Awareness of your mind and awareness of your body are two separate pieces of the puzzle. Often I see people are able to be present in their mind. We see our thoughts; we hear our thoughts; we speak our thoughts. And sometimes we have too many thoughts and it is difficult to slow them down.
I also observe when people have difficulty being IN their body. This looks like being unaware of sounds, unaware of feeling textures of objects in the external world, unaware of tastes, poor discernment of smells, or narrowed scope of vision. This is a response of stress, of our autonomic nervous system, also known as our fight our flight.
Being able to integrate mind and body with feeling, altogether, helps empower and energize oneself, the surrounding environment, and ultimately the world.
One of the more popular ways to integrate awareness is meditating. Meditation allows for an opportunity to be still in their body and offer time for their mind to start integrating with their body. Allowing the sensations in your body to exist without judgment allows the intensities of these passing sensations move into calmness and safety.
This is a skill; this can practiced; this can also become a way of life.
Once the awareness has blossomed, healing the emotional discomfort and the physical discomfort together can occur more succinctly.
